Why this publication exists
Financial reporting is necessary, but reporting alone is not financial leadership. Leaders need to understand what the numbers imply, how much uncertainty surrounds them, what risks are being carried, and which choices remain available.

About the author
Robert Young is a CFO and senior finance executive with more than 20 years of experience across nonprofit and technology organizations. He currently serves as CFO at The Tech Interactive and previously led finance at Monterey Bay Aquarium.
His work has included budgeting, forecasting, liquidity management, board reporting, financial systems, AI governance, capital allocation, and helping organizations make decisions when the numbers are incomplete or uncertain. Numbers & Judgment reflects that practical operator perspective.
